At Tweeddale, we have a strong focus on math. Maths is a core subject and is taught daily. Our lessons follow the new national curriculum and ensure that children are taught a skill which they then use in a breadth of contexts to ensure understanding and retention.  Problem solving has a large focus in the new curriculum, and at Tweeddale, we ensure problem solving is taught both discreetly, at a minimum of once a fortnight, and in context during a maths lesson.  These approaches to teaching maths ensure that the children are being exposed to the idea of mastery within maths.  Times tables knowledge is also something that is key to helping a child develop, both in isolation and within lessons. Children have a weekly times tables lesson, focusing on games and activities to help them gain a better recall of specific tables. The lesson is finished with a times tables test to ensure that progress is being made.
